At the ASHA “Changing Health Care Landscape Summit” October 5–7, 2012, chair Becky Sutherland Cornett made some thoughtful points in her presentation titled “Value, Not Volume—Clinical Services in the Era of Accountable Care.” Dr. Cornett was one of a wide variety of experts within and outside our professions brought together to talk about how we position our professions to succeed in the face of health care reform. How do we as speech-language pathologists and audiologists continue to have a vital place in provision of health care services? How do we influence patient satisfaction in the overall healthcare continuum? Does innovation in service delivery lead to improvements in patient outcomes? What is our role in improving patients' quality of life? The Executive Summary of this important meeting is available through the ASHA website at http://www.asha.org/uploadedFiles/ASHA/Practice/Health-Care-Reform/Healthcare-Summit-Executive-Summary-2012.pdf#search=%22Healthcare%22, and I encourage you to take time to read it. I will say that my attendance at this event has caused me to think differently about our potential roles in achieving health outcomes for our patients as we navigate through this current era of health care reform.
